Ever tried to share an advanced segment you created and get the response, “This is the wrong site”? Sometimes that is fine, if you just want to share a certain way to slice the traffic. But, if you want to share a specific segment for a specific site, there is a workaround.

  1. Grab the link that GA gives you when you select share (if will look something like http://www.google.com/analytics/reporting/add_segment?share=tROBsDEBAAA.RD_MY1rbVaEf7ayaUJLvVF4GbSiprmM5-jwY8PDviL6bKDUTQct-f5oYm0Vy3IZYsAQlBcXZ0tm-PPPZMcK1MQ.M1mYdpvRwVqb2wN2SUoXBg)sharing a custom segment
  2. Append the following to the url &id={your profile id}. Your profile id can be found in the url analytics profile id
  3. So your complete url will look like http://www.google.com/analytics/reporting/add_segment?share=tROBsDEBAAA.RD_MY1rbVaEf7ayaUJLvVF4GbSiprmM5-jwY8PDviL6bKDUTQct-f5oYm0Vy3IZYsAQlBcXZ0tm-PPPZMcK1MQ.M1mYdpvRwVqb2wN2SUoXBg&id=48820755

That’s it, share away! Of course, the user that you share the advanced segment with has to already have access to the analytics profile for this to work.
